Cnemidophorus lemniscatus are commonly called the Rainbow lizard, South American Whiptail, or Blue Lizard.

We have placed this lizard on our saltwater reptile page because we have found it in numerous expeditions to the Keys or islands of the shore of Venezuela. We have also found this beautiful blue lizard on the most arid mainland coastal regions of Venezuela.

In reality, the Cnemidophorus lemniscatus do not depend directly on the saltwater or oceans, hey do seem to be highly tolerable to lack of freshwater and they seem to be one of the few reptiles that are able to thrive in these inhospitable habitats.

In many occasions these lizards have learned to vary their insectivorous diet including in it cookies and chips or any other snacks which the tourists or visitors of their habitat drop on the ground.

The female Cnemidophorus lemniscatus are greener in coloration compared to the electrical blue color of the males.
